Why Your Base Might Be Lost in Dune: Awakening

Here's a summary of mechanics and risks that can make a base vulnerable, damaged, or removed entirely:

  1. Lack of Power/Fuel
    - If your base runs out of fuel, its power generator stops, disabling the shield that protects structures from environmental damage
    - Without the shield, sandstorms gradually damage or destroy walls, components, and your sub-fief
  2. Storm events or Coriolis storms
    - Coriolis storms temporarily disable base shields before destroying players' bases on the Deep Desert
    - Sandstorms damage every powered-down base on both the Deep Desert and Hagga Basin
  3. Player-initiated demolition or abandonment
    - A player who owns or co-owns a sub-fief can delete or dismantle its console or abandon a base, making it unclaimed or removed
    - Abandoning a base can be done via the world map: you can right-click your base and choose to abandon it
    - Base parts may decay if structural components lose connection to the main base, especially when distant from the core console or unlinked
  4. Building in unsafe locations (worm zones, open sand)
    - If part of your base or foundation lies on open sand, you risk sandworm attacks that can destroy structures
  5. Base raiding
    - If your base is on the PvP side of the Deep Desert and the shield powers down, it becomes vulnerable to raiding
  6. Failure to pay taxes
    - In Dune: Awakening you must pay taxes on each advanced sub-fief placed on your bases. If you fail to pay them, your base’s shield will eventually be disabled, leaving it vulnerable to Sandstorms

Where to find information on base destruction, base power, and pending taxes:

  • It is possible to verify the base power/fuel level as well as when taxes are due by checking your sub-fief
  • If a Sandstorm damages a base, players receive a notification in their communinet
  • If a sub-fief is destroyed by the environment or player action it also appears in the communinet
  • It's possible to consult taxes, which cycle every two weeks, by visiting Tamzin Flaxenraad in Arrakeen or Ehri Gan in Harko Village
  • When players approach their base, a notification will display how many days of power remain and whether taxes are paid

Tips to Protect Your Base

  • Keep track of your taxes
  • Only give base permissions to people you trust
  • Always keep your base powered with enough fuel
  • Avoid building in open desert and/or worm-territory zones
  • Enclose the sub-fief console and don't leave it out in the open
  • Track patch notes or HelpCenter announcements to stay aware of changes
  • Avoid building in the PvP side of the Deep Desert in order to avoid base raiding
