Official Servers: If you play on an official UE4 Exiled Lands server on Steam, your server will be updated to UE5 with everything carrying forward in the update. Your character, followers, and bases should not be affected.

This does not apply to Isle of Siptah servers, however.

The island itself has been merged with the Exiled Lands, which allows for a better experience in switching between the two maps, but this required a change to the physical coordinates of the island. As such, bases on the Isle of Siptah cannot be preserved in the UE5 update. You can prepare for this in a couple of ways:
  • The best option for Isle of Siptah players is to prepare for the UE5 update by dismantling their bases and depositing the materials in the inventories of their followers prior to the Official server downtime on May 4th, 15:00 UTC.

If they are in a clan, it is recommended that they leave the clan and use the thrall and pet trading posts to transfer ownership of followers to their individual characters. Once the update to UE5 happens, they will be moved to an Exiled Lands server, along with their followers, at which point they can make their way back to the Isle of Siptah to rebuild.

  • Alternatively, players can simply wait until the update, at which point their characters will be migrated via Server Merge to an Exiled Lands server, maintaining character level, progress, followers, and inventory, but dropping them at a new character spawn point in the Exiled Lands. Please note that, with this option, bases will be lost and players will not retain the materials to rebuild. We will post a mapping of which Exiled Lands servers each Isle of Siptah server is being merged to, so that players can find their new servers.

Private Servers: The process will differ for Exiled Lands servers and Isle of Siptah servers.

Exiled Lands

  1. Exiled Lands database files will be readable in UE5 by Conan Exiles Enhanced. It is still recommended that private server owners make backups of the UE4 game database files prior to the May 5th update.

    • …\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles Dedicated Server\ConanSandbox\Saved\game.db

  2. The private server owner will need to ensure the correct game database file (game.db) is in the corresponding folder location for Conan Exiles Enhanced. This will carry forward all characters and structures to the UE5 version.
Note: The “Conan Exiles Dedicated Server” folder name will change as part of the Steam update to reflect the new name of the game server, “Conan Exiles Enhanced Dedicated Server.” Your save files from UE4 should remain in place throughout the update process and will be converted to separate Conan Exiles Enhanced save files when the updated server is run. The recommendation to back up files is a precaution.
  • Isle of Siptah

The same restrictions discussed above apply with regard to the Isle of Siptah, in that bases and other player-built structures will not be transferable in the same way as with the Exiled Lands. Because there is no separate map for the Isle of Siptah in Conan Exiles Enhanced, there will not be any private Isle of Siptah servers, either.

Even if playing on the Isle of Siptah, players in Conan Exiles Enhanced will need to play on an Exiled Lands server. This will require starting with a fresh Exiled Lands database, as the database files from UE4 are not cross-compatible between maps. The following process is recommended:

Prior to the May 5th update, the server owner can create a new Exiled Lands server in UE4.

Players can then use the Server Transfer Tool to migrate their Isle of Siptah characters to the Exiled Lands server in UE4 (The server owner will need to ensure that the server settings allow character imports). This will drop players at a new character spawn point in the Exiled Lands.

Note: Players will retain their character level, progress, inventory, and followers, but will not be able to retain their bases or any other items placed in the world. To facilitate rebuilding, they can dismantle their bases and store the materials and other items they wish to take with them in their followers’ inventories.

The server owner can then follow the instructions above for Exiled Lands servers regarding the upgrade to Conan Exiles Enhanced on May 5th, including backup of the Exiled Lands database and ensuring that the correct version is in the corresponding folder location for Conan Exiles Enhanced.

  • Single–player: The process will differ for Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah savegames.

    • Exiled Lands

Exiled Lands database files will be readable in UE5 by Conan Exiles Enhanced, and the update to UE5 should be seamless for single-player games. However, it is still recommended that you make backups of the UE4 game database files prior to the May 5th update.

Note: The “Conan Exiles” folder name will change as part of the Steam update to reflect the new name of the game, “Conan Exiles Enhanced.” Your save files from UE4 should remain in place throughout the update process and will be converted to separate Conan Exiles Enhanced save files when the updated game is run. The recommendation to back up files is a precaution.

If you encounter any issues or loss of character or progress with the upgrade, you can use your backup to ensure the correct game database file (game.db) is in the corresponding folder location for Conan Exiles Enhanced. This will carry forward all characters and structures to the UE5 version.

    • Isle of Siptah

The same restrictions discussed above apply with regard to the Isle of Siptah, in that bases and other player-built structures will not be transferrable in the same way as with the Exiled Lands. Because there is no separate map for the Isle of Siptah, there will not be a separate game database file, either. Even if playing on the Isle of Siptah, players in Conan Exiles Enhanced will be using an Exiled Lands database file. This will require starting with a fresh Exiled Lands database, as the database files from UE4 are not cross-compatible between maps. The following process is recommended:

Prior to the May 5th update, players can use the Server Transfer Tool to migrate their Isle of Siptah characters to an Exiled Lands single-player game in UE4.

Players can then follow the instructions above for Exiled Lands savegames regarding the upgrade to Conan Exiles Enhanced on May 5th, including backup of the Exiled Lands database and ensuring that the correct version is in the corresponding folder location for Conan Exiles Enhanced. After the upgrade to Conan Exiles Enhanced, players can make their way back to the Isle of Siptah to rebuild.

Note regarding savegames and database files: While UE4 databases will be readable by UE5, the reverse is not true. Once your character or your game database is updated to UE5, you will not be able to transfer it back to UE4. If you wish to retain your characters or savegames in Conan Exiles Legacy, please migrate your characters off Official servers and back up your database files prior to the May 5th update to Conan Exiles Enhanced.
Note regarding UE4 Server Transfer Tool restrictions: In order to prevent exploits and other game-breaking issues, character imports are subject to restrictions dependent on the original source of the stored character. Characters from single-player games are not allowed to be imported to dedicated servers of any kind, private or official. Likewise, characters from private servers cannot be imported to an official server. In addition, PvE characters cannot be imported to a PvP server. Characters can be imported to a server of equal or lesser restrictiveness, as follows: Official PvP => Official PvE-C => Official PvE => Private Dedicated => Single Player/Coop. There is also a one-day cooldown that applies to character transfers using the Server Transfer Tool.
